Children of the Earth is continuously establishing and formulating new educational  programs in various countries as well as offering speakers to attend conferences and workshops and contribute presentations on relevant topics which further a better life for all children.  Listed below are some highlights of our activities, 1997-2002.

1.We offered input and supported programs for development of the Culture of Peace by a Buddhist group in Thailand.   This involved active participation in an international gathering honoring Buddha attended by 500,000 people.

2. We spoke on the potential role of the United Nations’ documents in the education of children at the New Millennium celebration on Conscious Education in Brazil.

3. We participated in UNESCO’s Jubillenium workshop of Manifesto 2000 which launched the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence project.  In addition, we presented at the conference establishing and furthering UNESCO and the UN’s Resolution for a Culture of Peace.   In Spain, we further advocated that the UNESCO and the UN Resolution for a Culture of Peace be included in all public school curricula and continue for the decade.

4. We developed an educational curriculum on Children’s Rights as reflected in the Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as other documents that entitle young people to a meaningful education.

5. We co-sponsored and actively participated in “We the People’s Peace Summit” in Burlington, Vermont.  This conference is the first in a series of global events emphasizing “Peace as a State of Being Beyond the Absence of  War.”

6. We coordinated the linking of individuals and NGO groups committed to furthering spiritual  perspectives as reflected in the UN Charter.  This involved monthly meetings and an email group with over 100 participants focused on spirituality and global understanding.

7. We traveled to Spain, India, Taiwan, China and other countries to present at various conferences on supporting cultural and religious diversity in order that our children face a more integrated global future.  Focus has been on Manifesto 2000: The Culture of Peace and Non-Violence.

8. At the State of the World Forum, we coordinated a group to discuss at a Round Table meeting the meaning of spiritual values as it pertains to the United Nations.

9. We facilitated a discussion and supported the development of involving a school in Nepal to begin to teach documents and information gathered from the United Nations information services for the children to become part of the growing global society.

10. We are developing a Children’s Peace Center in Ghana which brings international youth and African youth together to learn and appreciate each other’ similarities and differences as well as learn about pressing global issues such as poverty, HIV-Aids and the enlistment of child soldiers.

11. We served as moderator at a conference on Global Education in Sao Paolo, Brazil.  We are scheduled to speak on this topic at a conference on indigenous cultures to be held in India, February, 2003, and at a conference in May in Pallanzo, Italy.

12. We  co-sponsored The Ark of Hope at the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development.

13. We continue to work  with various youth groups to further the building of coalitions such as the Hague Appeal for Peace and Youth. We reach out to groups interested in establishing youth centers and linking for greater world-wide impact.

14.  Our president, Nina Meyerhof, EdD, received an award from the Citizen’s Department of Peace, an organization supporting Congressman Dennis Kucinich’s proposal for a national Department of Peace.  The award, in recognition of all Nina’s peace work with children, was given on Septemebr 11th 2002, the first anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.  It  specifically noted her response to the confused and terrifying predicament of children who were affected by the Trade Center calamity.  Nina was instrumental in getting the Kids Korner in the Armory set up.

15.  We received the NY Inter-Faith Center award for our work in developing the Children’s Peace Center in Ghana.

16. We spoke about the  Ghana Children’s Peace Center at the World Association for NGOs in Washington DC.
