The ancestors
of the people of the Six Nations were the first human
inhabitants of the eastern part of North America (Turtle
Island). These people, known as Haudenosaunee, are the oldest living participatory democracy on earth. They have for over eight centuries
practiced governance based on the consent of the governed AND
with a spiritual awareness that everything is connected, that
all living beings are related, that all life is One Life.
