“YOUTH UNITED FOR A GREATER UNDERSTANDING”
jointly organized by Children of the Earth, Inc.;
Office of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Children in Armed Conflict;
and Apeadu Children’s Peace Center

The Second International Youth Leadership Program of the Apeadu Peace Center  began on the 30th of June 2003 with a prayer led by Chief Nana Apeadu (Ghana) followed by Audrey Kitigawa's recitation of Gayantri Mantra. The audience after the recitation took turns to introduce themselves and the missions of the organizations they represented.  Dr. Nina Meyerhof described Apeadu  Peace Center as an initiative of Chief Nana Apeadu Yiadom II with the support of Children of the Earth (USA) and the Office of the Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict. The conference brought together over seventy participants from fifteen countries. Also in attendance were ninty members of a spiritual family from Hawaii.

Participants delivered a total of twenty-four presentations and workshops.  Each was followed by a question and answer session.  The theme was peace education.  Knowing full well that world peace begins with personal peace, the challenges of HIV/AIDS and health issues were among the areas of focus.
